    Apéro press clippings:

“…from the nine minute celestial sashay of ‘Crystal Salutation’ thru the off-kilter Maria Minerva-isms of ‘Electronic Disco’ or the chiming boogie of 'Altered Images’ to blown-out dub-pop sweetnuss in 'The Age Of Love’, and the Balearic acid of 'Le Voyage’. Top notch. ” - BOOMKAT

“Like much of the music seeping out of the (Green Door) studio, Apéro is hard to pin down. What’s most striking, perhaps, is the duo’s keen grasp of atmosphere. While their music – ostensibly a drowsy take on leftfield pop variously influenced by psychedelia, minimal wave, Italo-disco, shoegaze and kosmiche – is unflinchingly stylish, it comes gift-wrapped in the sort of hazy, loved-up, sunrise-friendly vibe that recalls the wide-eyed innocence of the late 1980s rave scene. Of course, it doesn’t sound like rave in any way, but it does share an “anything is possible” that made that era, in both indie and dance music, so special.” - JUNO

“When people talk about “the future of Pop music”, this is generally what I’ve always imagined. 'Apéro’ is Happy Meals debut release (I believe). The sounds within are mostly made from (what sound like) analog synths, drum machine beats, and androgynous vocals saturated in Utopian Pop Bliss underneath a bath of drugged out white noise bent by twisted euphoria. You may not know it yet, but you need tones like this in your life right now/always.“ - Everything Is Chemical

”…a refreshing turn for a Glasgow electronic band to delve so head first into continental balearic style this successfully whilst retaining a certain weegie toughness to it, perhaps bred from the taps aff techno heat of the city’s club scene but with a more elegant and erudite twist. Sophisticated as fuck, so to speak.“ - The List (Album of the month)

"As a record Apéro is far cleverer than it initially lets on. On first listen there’s a sense of simplicity, even on Crystal Salutations’ swirling synth opus, the pair lay foundations around repetition, a selective sound pallette and just a couple of hypnagogic-soaked hooks; Electric Disco meanwhile has the feel of a 70’s R'n'B hit left out in the sun too long, woozy and warped. Listen again though and you find more, the way Altered Images gradually adds more and more to its tapestry, or how Visions of Utopia seems to fit together like a tangram, with varying digital patterns feeling each other out and pivoting in order to fit. Any sense of methodology though is played off by the pair’s contentment to allow happy accidents to slip through, the over distortion of a Korg or the muddiness of a drum machine.” - The Skinny
